The Department of Medical Education is back-bone of Medical Institute. In 2008 Pakistan Medical & Dental Council sent directions to all Public & Private medical colleges in this country to set up Department of Medical Education.
The major function of DME is to help prepare the teaching staff with necessary skills to undertake effectively their role as medical Teacher. Other well-known functions are: Curriculum development, service provision, assessment and ensuring the accreditation of medical colleges.
The scope of its activities includes undergraduate and postgraduate education. The activities may be extended to other healthcare professionals.
The Director of Department of Medical Education provides academic leadership for the department and his/her responsibilities include promotion of staff, collaboration, fostering career development of the staff and establishing local, regional and international links.
The Department of Medical Education was established in 2013. Prof. Riaz Ahmed Shaikh was the first Incharge of DME. Later on Prof. Aftab Hussain Shah, Prof. Abdul Hamid shaikh, and Prof. Bashir Ahmed Shaikh took the charge of Director DME for variable period

VISION STATEMENT

Sustaining medical education is not a minor under taking. Keeping in view the institutional needs and resources, DME is intended to help in capacity building of teaching faculty, designing and revision of curricula to meet the current and emerging needs of Medical Education and in Promoting Research and supporting Medical Students

MISSION STATEMENT:

DME is putting all the efforts to meet its vision. In this context, DME is conducting and facilitating various workshop, seminars, symposia and hands on training to train staff in Medical pedagogy, clinical teaching, student assessment & program evaluation in collaboration with various departments and to train medical students in group dynamics, small group learning activities & PBL.

 DME is also striving to help in development and monitoring of curriculum by providing appropriate design and innovations and is assisting curriculum committees in instructional methods, clinical teaching and student assessment.  It is also promoting medical research and providing necessary peer support for medical teachers to contribute positively to our institute.

The vision of Department of Medical Education SMBB Medical University is to provide educational/instructional/training services to the students & faculty of the institute in order to achieve the mark of excellence in the field. Also, we intend to be a “reference point” and “stand-alone” as Leader of Health Professions Education and Faculty Professional Development among all public and private medical institutes.

The mission of Department of Medical Education is to:

3. Promote the of culture of collaborative research
4. Provide platform for comprehensive Faculty Professional Development to achieve excellence in the field of Medical Education.
