World Environment Day Meeting at the office of Mayer Larkana Mr Anwar Ali Luhur on 5 June 2024
The Vice Chancellor SMBBMU Larkana, Prof Nusrat Shah attended the World Environment Day Meeting organised by the Mayor of Larkana Mr Anwar Ali Luhur on 5 June 2024. The program started with plantation of several ‘Amaltas’ trees followed by cake cutting and then meeting with all the dignitaries of Larkana, and officers of Municipal Committees. Mr Anwar welcomed the vice chancellor and other dignitaries and emphasised his mission of making Larkana green and beautiful. Mr Iftikhar Ahmed, head of Rescue 1122 said plantation and trees can lower the temperatures during heat waves. He quoted the example of Punjab university which has developed botanical gardens in Lahore which has lowered the temperatures there and said we can do the same for Larkana. Mr Munir Ahmed Soomro said he remembered the Larkana in old times when it used to be called the city of gardens and was filled with trees but now things are different and our society has to realise that we need to work together to make Larkana green again. Prof Nusrat Shah congratulated the mayor and everyone else for celebrating the world environment day and said our university is a health science university and one of our important goals is to work for a healthy sustainable environment which can promote health and prevent disease. She said trees are important for survival of our planet and for entire ecosystem including human race, animals, birds and fishes. She said trees give us oxygen and take up our carbon dioxide and we need more and more plantation to face the challenge of climate change and massive floods. She appealed to everyone to join hands and work together to make Larkana beautiful again and to bring down the temperature through massive plantation drive. In the end the Mayor presented Ajraks to the dignitaries and thanked everyone for attending the meeting.
