The Gastroenterology department of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University at Chandka Medical College Larkana organized a symposium on the topic “HEALTY LIVER FOR ALL” from the platform of Pakistan Society of Hepatology on 4th March 2023. For third Pakistan Society of Hepatology (PSH) symposium program. The event was organized by Chief Organizer Prof. Dr. Ali Haider Baloch and an assistant Asstt: Prof. Sultan Ahmed Chandio general secretary and panel of experts as well as postgraduates from different hospitals from across the Pakistan participated in this scientific program. This scientific program also includes a session on follow up workshop on liver diseases in pregnancy which is organized by Assistant Professor Dr. Tanveer Fatima from Sheikh Zayed hospital Larkana.
Panel of the session experts includes Prof Dr. Shahida Magsi, Dr. Fozia Kashif, Dr. Shaista Hifaz, Prof. Dr. Safia Maqsood and Prof. Dr. Shabnam Naz, all from Sheikh Zaid women Hospital Larkana.
Highlights from various speakers include Dr. Asad Chaudhary, President PSH said that unfortunately Pakistan nowadays is number one country in the world as far as burden of viral hepatitis is concerned. Everyone has to work hard, including government and NGO's as well as society to eliminate hepatitis from Pakistan. PSH is prestigious society to promote standards of care for liver problems since its foundation in 2001.
Prof. Dr. Javed Iqbal Farooqi: “NAFLD / MAFLD is the most common disease of liver in the world as well as Pakistan. It is mostly associated with obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. If not treated in time, it leads to liver cirrhosis and cancer”.
Prof. Ali Haider Baloch, Chairman organizer Symposium said, to prevent our population from liver diseases and its consequences like cirrhosis of liver, liver failure and liver cancer for better management. The one way is to share recent advancement in the field of hepatology with our doctor community through Seminars, Symposia, Conferences. Gastroenterology Department, in collaboration with Pakistan Societies of hepatology (PSH) is trying to fulfill its responsibilities to promote standards of care for liver problems.
Dr. Shahzad Riaz concluded that liver transplantation is the only treatment for end stage liver diseases management of hepatocellular carcinoma and crucial decisions in liver transplantation are complex-MDT and team working is the key.
