The First International Conference on “Emerging Trends in Basic Medical Sciences” was successfully convened at SMBBMU from 12-13 February at Chandka Medical College campus of Smbbmu, organised by ORIC, Smbbmu and supported by Sindh HEC, Karachi. The Plenary sessions were held at Latif Auditorium of CMC. Parallel sessions were conducted concurrently across five seminar halls, each focusing on a specific field such as medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, and physiotherapy. The Keynote speakers included Prof Kamarul Ariffin & Prof Zul Izhar Mohd Ismail from University of Sains Malaysia, Prof Yoshiaki Takaya from Meijo University Japan, Prof Dileep Kumar Rohra from Al-Faisal University Saudi Arabia, Prof Mohammad Ansar from Qauid e Azam University Islamabad, Prof. Fauzia Imtiaz, Ex- Vice Chancellor Malir University, Karachi, Prof. Nazeer Khan Director ORIC Baqai Medical University, Dr. Pamela Marshal Dean Ziauddin University, Dr. Rubina Qasim Duhs, and others.

The First International Conference in Basic Sciences marks a significant milestone for SMBBMU with an overwhelming response from across the country and abroad. A total of 96 research papers were presented covering almost all fields of basic medical sciences including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology and genetics. In addition research papers in physiotherapy, nursing, dentistry and pharmaceutical sciences were also presented.
The conference served as a platform for fruitful exchange of ideas and collaboration among participants from esteemed institutions such as Quaid e Azam university Islamabad, Duhs, University of Karachi, Sindh University, AKU, JSMU, Baqai University, Lumhs, Pumhs and others.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Nusrat Shah in her concluding remarks thanked the delegates for their excellent participation, inspiration, and invaluable learning experience this conference provided.
